On July 24th, a meaningful gathering took place in Çeşme to support marine conservation efforts along Turkey’s iconic turquoise coastline. Organized by Onur and Özlem Eren, in collaboration with the Turquoise Coast Environment Fund (TCEF Turkey), the Turkish Marine Research Foundation (TÜDAV), and the Municipality of Çeşme, the “Temiz Çeşme, Temiz Deniz” gala brought together community members, conservationists, philanthropists, and advocates around a shared vision: protecting our seas for future generations.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Çiftlikköy panoramic terrace, the evening’s venue was transformed into a marine-inspired setting by Maria’s Flowers event team, under the artistic direction of local artist Yasemin Öncü. The tables were decorated using upcycled plastic waste, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility. Guests embraced the spirit of the night by dressing in Çeşme’s sea-blue tones.
The culinary experience was curated by celebrated chef Osman Sezener, who designed a seasonal menu featuring local, responsibly sourced ingredients. The menu paid homage to the region’s biodiversity, drawing attention to endangered marine species and the importance of sustainable consumption.
More than a celebration, the gala served as a platform to raise awareness and mobilize resources for the preservation of marine biodiversity, the sustainability of clean water resources, and the resilience of coastal economies such as fishing and tourism. Guests were introduced to ongoing conservation projects, success stories, and long-term goals led by TCEF and TÜDAV.
In his remarks, TCEF Turkey Chair Onur Eren shared:
“Our dream is for the seas and coasts to remain a healthy, balanced, and sustainable habitat for all living beings. With every step we take, every partnership we build, we carry the awareness that our oceans are essential not only for humans, but for the entire ecosystem. Our aim is to protect and regenerate this natural wealth for both today and tomorrow.”
All proceeds from the evening were directed to marine conservation efforts. For those unable to attend, donation opportunities remained open in support of this vital mission.
TCEF Turkey, TÜDAV, and the Municipality of Çeşme remain deeply committed to protecting Turkey’s coastal ecosystems, strengthening local communities, and advancing a sustainable future through collective impact.
